OUR MISSION at CultureRealm is to utilize anthropology and filmmaking to facilitate an inclusive and culturally informed world. Education is liberation, and this collaborative experience is meant to invoke understanding, peace, and justice. 

THE VISION is to establish CultureRealm as a tool for global citizens to map their cultural experiences onto the world through filmmaking and community media centers and skills training programs. 

THE TEAM

David Leins David is an ethnographic filmmaker and is the Media Director of CultureRealm. He Graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor's in Anthropology, and minor in Arabic. David is Web Producer at American Ethnologist and works as a freelance video journalist. He is interested in exploring the dynamics of relationships and between activist groups in the U.S. and abroad, specifically in Arab American communities in Detroit, MI and Palestine.

Christian Vannier PhD Christian Vannier is a cultural anthropologist whose work documents religious practice and local organization in the Afro-Atlantic world. Author, ethnographic filmmaker, and co-founder of culture realm, Christian teaches anthropology and Africana studies at the University of Michigan-Flint. His current projects explores the connections between vodu in West Africa and Africana-rooted religious belief and practices in the Caribbean using participatory and experimental filmmaking.

He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan-Flint and his graduate studies at Wayne State University, Detroit. His interests include ethnography, peace and conflict, anthropology of religion, american culture, visual anthropology.

He formerly worked as an editor  and writer for Middle East Eye News, Maan, a Palestinian news agency based in Bethlehem. His articles have also appeared in The Detroit News, AlterNet, and Mondoweiss, among other publications. He is currently looking at life-as-text in refugee communities in the Middle East.
